April 28 has been designated World Day for Safety and Health at Work by the International Labor Organization. This day is intended to draw attention to the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases. Together, we reflect on the shared responsibility of employers and employees. This not only contributes to a safer working environment, but is also seen as a positive development within your company!
Here are some practical tips for a safe workplace:
- Ensure that you have an up-to-date Risk Inventory & Evaluation (RI&E)
- Appoint a prevention officer and support them in their prevention tasks.
- Provide information about working safely to your employees
Safe computer screen work
When you think of unsafe situations at work, you probably immediately think of jobs that involve heavy lifting or working with machines or hazardous substances. But did you know that working with computer screens also carries risks? It is important to consider this.
Working at a computer screen carries both the risk of physical overload and underload. Repetitive movements and static postures can lead to overload, while prolonged sitting without regular breaks to stand or walk increases the risk of various diseases and disorders.
It is a legal obligation for employers to properly inform employees about the health and safety risks of their work. Employees, in turn, have a responsibility to actively participate in this information provision. It is important to repeat this information regularly. A one-off information session and instruction will not stick and will be forgotten in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is therefore important to refresh the information regularly.
